CLICK HERE to read an excerpt from “Spirit of a German Shepherd Dog”

I live among God’s creatures now, in the heavens of your mind
So do not grieve for me, my friend for I am with my kind.

My collar is a rainbow’s hue, my leash a shooting star
My boundaries are the Milky Way where I sparkle from afar.
I nap the day on a snowy cloud, gentle breezes rocking me
And dream the dreams of Earthlings and how it used to be.

The trees are full of liver treats and tennis balls abound
And Milk bones line the walkways just waiting to be found
I drink from waters laced with gold my world a beauty to behold
And wise old dogs do form my pride to amble at my very side

At night I sleep in an angel’s arms, her wings protecting me
And moonbeams dance about us as stardust falls on thee
So when your life on earth is spent, and you stand at Heaven’s gate
Have no fear of loneliness for here, you know I wait

Sir Luther (Woofy)

October 1st 1998 - April 14th 2011

LutherHe was the youngest of our pack of 5 G.S.D's and the last to leave us. His character was like none I have ever known, and he was my rock when all others had passed away. He showed compassion and leadership when dozens of rescue German Shepherds came through our doors to be fostered. Thank you Luther for all you have done for me, I can only hope I did the same for you. I love and miss you very much and I am grateful for the memories you have giving me. Run and play with Baron, Breena, Sadie and Samson in the meadows at the bridge.

I will see you again someday, wait for me.
— Love Dad, Mom and Maddie

JackJack

October 6, 2006 [adoption date]- April 6, 2011

Jack was such a special member of our entire family. He enjoyed playing with his greyhound cousins and laying outside in the grass. He was always ready to brighten our day or give some needed kisses. Everyone Jack met loved him. He touched us all in such a special way. Its hard to put into words just how special Jack was to us and how much we loved him. Thank you Jack, for the many good times. We were truly blessed to have you in our family, and it won't be the same without you.

We love and miss you.
— Mom, Dad, and your girl furever, Ali

Baron

November 1, Baron1997 -January 7, 2011

Baron passed away on January 7th, 2011. His mom, Monica, could not be selfish as the Pneumonia had taken a hold so his passing was peaceful. Baron was on this earth and enlightening lives for 13 years, 2 months and 7 days which is a miracle for this pup as he was Epileptic and also had arthritis in the legs. He made each day just a little more special for his family and everyone that met him. You will always be your momma’s little care bear, Baron Von Flooff Flooff, Bionic Baron and most importantly, her Baby. Rest well, sweet boy.

Love,
your dear furiends

Cheyenne

March 15, 2002 – December 8, 2010

CheyenneCheyenne was the most beautiful, sweetest angel. I rescued her when she was about two. At which time, she rescued me. My husband said that Cheyenne and I taught him what love really means. She was my companion, my friend, my protector, but most of all our baby girl. She was taken suddenly, having been riddled with cancer. She was so happy and so were we. We both had other dogs growing up, but Cheyenne was OUR BABY. She made us laugh and smile every day, and loved us more than I ever thought possible. She is waiting for us now, at The Rainbow Bridge, she is happy, and no longer in pain. We are so very sad, but friends and family tell us that time will heal. I never dreamed we would be so lost without her. But then, I never dreamed that we could feel such great love.

Cheyenne, Mommy and Daddy love you, you are missed so much, and we will think of you every day. We will see you again baby girl. - Renee and Wayne

Max Werts

July 3, 1995 – May 4, 2009

Shilo“Dynamic Black Max” the ad read when we first saw him online… he was that and more.  Although he owned Michelle from day one, in time he came to own Todd, too.  Max is greatly missed by Michelle and Todd and leaves an empty space in our home and our hearts; Phoenix (GSD rescued 2006) is still trying to understand where her buddy has gone.  Max filled the emptiness left by the loss of Michelle’s Duchess and although we were not his first love, I believe he came to love us as much as we loved him.  Someday I look forward to seeing him at the Rainbow Bridge playing ball and running without pain once more.

Until then,
Todd, Michelle & Phoenix

ShiloShilo Schaeffer/Miller

April 19 1998 - Dec. 26, 2008

As far as Shilo is concerned, really the only thing that needs to be said is how awesome of a best-friend she was for 10 1/2 years, how dearly loved she was, and that we miss her so much it still hurts to think and talk about her. Shilo was born on April 19, 1998, and died on December 26, 2008 after a massive stroke. She was really a fighter for the 2 1/2 years she battled Cushing's Disease. I have had a number of German Shepherds in my life time, and all of them have touched my life in different ways, but none of them touched my life the way Shilo did, her and I just had a very special bond, and I miss that. - Vickie Schaeffer

Major Graham

August 10, 1997- May 17, 2008Chips

Major was my best friend and most loyal companion for almost eleven years. He was the most gentle dog with people, but I always knew he would protect me in an instant if I needed it.  Major was happy when I was happy, sad when I was sad, and dependable to the end.   He was taken from me so suddenly by lung cancer earlier this year and our house hasn’t been the same since.  There will never be another dog like my “Bubba!”  I will miss you always and forever!

Love, Mommy (Nathan, Mindy, Spook, Squirt, & Bam)

Ottley-face2Ottley Dukesherer

1995 - 2007

Ottley was a most handsome and noble boy, took great care of his family Elizabeth, Dan and Noah and Corgi brother Galen. He lived a grand long life, loved to play ball, and - oh my – those EARS!

God speed, Ottley!
