MISSY: Adopted 2008
Paula and I cannot express in words how much we love Missy.  The best kept secret in animal rescue is the adoption of an adult dog.

Missy3Her integration into our home has been virtually seamless.  From the time we pulled away from Rachel, Missy was "our" dog.  A quiet travelling companion, she made the trip without incident.  After sniffing all of the new smells and getting acquainted, it was time for fetch the tennis ball.  That game started last Sunday evening and continues yet today except for brief time outs for eating and sleeping.  She sleeps quietly all night long at the side of our bed until she gets up to have coffee and a morning stroll about the grounds with me

She has motivated me and we visit our local sports complex twice a day for the wooded walking trail.  No begging, no chewing, no bad habits we can see.

Two of our three grandchildren visited today and immediately fell in love with her.  Their visit gave me a chance to rest my arm from throwing the tennis ball!!!

As far as we are concerned, Missy has found her "forever" home.  I think she feels the same way.

Thanks to both of you for all you do and if you don't mind, I will keep you updated on Missy.  If you ever have any questions about her, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Best Regards,
 Paula and Randall Head

ZACHARY BINKS: - Adopted 2008
Missy3Hey!  Binks is still a great addition to our family.  I am really glad we have adopted him and wouldn't want to imagine a day without him!  When we walk through the neighborhood people always compliment him on how gorgeous he is.  They even stop in their cars.  He lets kids come up and pet him and he'll even give them a good-bye kiss.

GEORGE: Adopted 2007
We adopted George in February 2007 through Serendipity GSD Rescue.  He has turned out to be one of the best things for our family.  George is everything that the description of him on Petfinder.com claimed.  He’s affectionate, gentle, and great with kids and cats and just an all around great dog.  In fact, it astonishes me that anyone would have voluntarily given him up.

Missy3His favorite activity is going to the dog park to play with other dogs and running flat out.  He adores instigating chase with anything that will run after him!

I have attached a photo from this past summer of George and our 4 year old Meredith and a couple of pictures of George posing.  We are expecting another baby this summer, but when we finally get a fenced yard in place I hope to adopt a companion dog for George as I am sure he would benefit from having a playmate.

I can’t thank your organization enough for rescuing George for us.

Sincerely,
Jessica Long

GRACIE: - Adopted 2007
Missy3We are SO happy to have Gracie in our lives.  I can't thank you enough for matching us up with her.  Our sweet girl continues to grow, both in size and into our hearts.  She is so sweet.  We are so lucky to have her.

Her ears are still not standing much.  She will hold them when she's really excited (as you can see with the snow photos), but they flop right back down again.  We're still debating about taping them, but we are running out time for that.  Obviously we love her to pieces no matter what.  But she has two totally different looks.  Cute and puppy-ish with the ears flopping or Noble and beautiful with the ears up.

HEIDI: - Adopted 2007
Missy3Heidi is doing real well and bonding wonderfully to Edith. Edith absolutely adores her and feels so lucky to have her. She decided to go ahead and fence the yard so Heidi could run and play--so now she has almost an acre all to herself, but the fencing is new and so far Heidi doesn't know what to do with all that freedom.  She didn't bark for a long time, but is now starting to bark at the sound of the door bell which is just great, as that's something Edith's needs because of her hearing problem.  She's getting more comfortable all the time and we feel she's going to be a really great dog, and God knows she's an absolutely beauty. Everyone is in awe of her. Take care and God bless you for your work with animals.

He loves to play with his "sister", Kooky the cat...Thank you for giving me the opportunity to adopt him, me and my wife are very happy.... I'll be sure to include your organization on my next charitable donation, you guys do a great job! Attached are some pictures of Jaeger.

JAKE: - Adopted 2007
Missy3Hi I just wanted to drop some pictures off for you of Jake, who I adopted back at the end of the summer.  As you can see he has grown a little, he is almost 1 year old!  This is a picture of him in front of the Christmas tree; he got a lot of new toys!  This is our Christmas photo.

JOEY: - Adopted 2007
Missy3Joey has been with us almost 2 weeks and participated in his first general family get-together this weekend.  He found that there were a lot more people to keep track of and he had a hard time figuring out where to plant himself as he likes to be where his family is -everyone was were scattered around the kitchen, family, and dining area which made it difficult for him to make a decision.  He was pretty tired by the end of the day.  We learned that he is fond of Turkey (he made his first attempt at removal of part of a turkey carcass from the kitchen island but stopped quickly on command),  he doesn't think people should wrestle with small children (he became very worried when our 4 year old grandson Jasper and his father were getting a bit rowdy in the family room,)   he found that 3 year old girls don't always throw his ball in a reliable direction (our granddaughter Olivia throws with enthusiasm but is working on  control) , he discovered that Lincoln Logs look like sticks but.............., he found that sometimes you have to share "your" couch and ottoman with others, and lots of extra people mean lots of extra petting and hugs.  All in all it was a successful day and everyone declared Joey to be a wonderful additional to the family.   Today he has been busy seeing some of the family off and resting up from all the festivities as he missed nap times yesterday.

Again we thank you for helping Joey become a part of our family.  He is truly a gift

KEVA: - Adopted 2007
Missy3Keva is doing very well so far.  She and Patton are having a lot of fun playing together!  We have actually already reintroduced the toys and they play very nicely with them.  They do play fight, but Patton has been much better with them than we expected.  They are also both eating in their crates and it's working out very well.  They have been playing in the house but calm down right away if we say 'enough'.  We've been letting them run and play outside, too.  We are very happy with our new girl and will keep you updated!  I'm attaching some pictures for you!
Take care!
Erin & Nate

KIKKA: - Adopted 2007
It’s now been about six months since we adopted Kikka (formerly known as “Blue”) and brought him back home here in Overland Park.

Missy3Kikka is a beautiful and smart pup - grown very tall, and now up to 67 pounds (he was 19# the day we brought him home, at four months of age).  He gets on well with our 11 year GSD cross, Jet, and our four cats. He and Jet go for a two mile walk each morning (Kikka wearing his doggy backpack for an added workout), and Kikka also gets off-leash work at a nearby park each morning, while we are out. He gets lots and lots of public socializing, so he's very well behaved with people, kids, and other dogs.

We also go to the BIG dog park here in Johnson County, at Shawnee Mission Park, which has lots of woods to explore, and a lake to swim in. Kikka learned to swim on his very first trip out there - he was very cautious, but excited, but he learned how the big boys do it by watching Jet.   Kikka’s favorite toy is his beloved Jolly Ball.   He gets lots of love and attention; though we certainly don't let him even begin to rule the household. I can take food and treats out of his mouth without complaint or aggression. He's a very good minded boy, and I'm very proud of him.

Thank you so much for making his adoption to us possible and we look forward to many years with him enriching our lives. We hope to participate in some of your upcoming events this year!

MILO: - Adopted 2006
Hi, my name is Milo!

When I was about 9 months old, I was found wandering the streets, lost and taken to a scary animal control shelter. Luckily the great folks from the German Shepherd Rescue came and got me. I was placed into a real neat foster home with a cool foster sister called Beyla. She put up with my puppy behavior (for the most part) and helped me to learn (some) manners. My foster mom and dad helped me out a bunch so that I could get ready to be placed in a new home.

Missy3The magic day came, December 24th '2006. How perfect was that? I was my new dads Christmas present to himself. I found out that I had big paw prints to fill since my new dad had lost his long time GSD friend of 15 years earlier in the year. But I'm up to the task (plus I have REAL big paws of my own)! I was so happy on that first truck ride to my new home. I got to ride with two of my new kids Rick and Rhonda and my soon to be new mom Sherry. My dad Eric and mom Sherry got married in March '2007 so now we have five kids (Chris, Samantha, Ian, Rick and Rhonda) and five dogs, me (Milo) my GSD mix sister Shelby, Jack Russell mix Skipper, and Chihuahua mixes Elvis and Colonel. We now spend the day together, chasing stuff, each other and doing other fun things such as going to a real cool dog park nearby where I get to meet all kinds of cool dogs. I can run as fast as I can, sniff all kinds of neat smells and just be a dog! Dad says I'm a social butterfly, I don't know what that means, but everyone likes to pet me and tells my dad how handsome I am!  My new house also has a huge water bowl in the back yard that I can drink out of and even cool my self off in, I think mom and dad call it a pool. Anyway I love to walk down into it, swim around and wet my whistle! My sister and brothers don't seem to get the same enjoyment out of it that I do, but maybe that's because they don't have as much fur as me. My dad seems to get a little irritated with me after I go for a swim and then roll around in the nice soft dirt! It's OK because he gives me extra attention with a big fluffy towel.  Last summer I got to try something new, boat rides! Me and dad go out and find a nice empty cove to pull the boat up on. I hop out and begin exploring while dad goes for a swim. I don't like it when he swims to far from the boat so I have to go in after him to make sure he is OK. My other favorite thing is to go for truck rides with my dad. He has a window in the top of the truck that opens up. I like to put my paws on the center console and stick my head out the top. I can see real good this way and I can see all the people looking at me and smiling. My dad says it's because I look silly with my head sticking out that way, but I think it's just because I'm just so darn handsome!

I want to thank the wonderful folks at the German Shepherd rescue and my foster mom, dad and sister for helping me find a great new family to be a part of. Now I get to give back and take care of my brothers, sister, kids and of course, mom and dad.
